RichardRinger, who was impressed byEthiopia’s world record breakingrunners Haile Gebrselassieand Kenenisa Bekele as ayoungster, remembers threeincidents that convinced himto seriously turn to running.„When I was ten years old Icompeted in a 800 metres race and finished third with a timeof around 2:52. The tremendous feeling to be on the podiummade me join an athletics club.“When he was 15 he found his name in a season’s list of theGerman Athletics Federation (DLV) for the first time. With a1,500 m time of 4:09 he made it into the list for the best under18 year-olds. „Then there was a race for young athletes duringthe European Cross Country Championships in Heringsdorf(Usedom island/Germany) in 2004 which I won,“ saysRichard Ringer.As a senior he took the bronze medal in the 5,000 m final ofthe European Championships in 2016 and won the European10,000 m Cup a year ago. Additionally Ringer was third in theEuropean Indoors’ 3,000 m final in 2017.Richard Ringer is a self-coached athlete, who has a part-timejob as a controller at Rolls-Royce Power Systems. Er führte in den 90er-Jahren neben Uta Pippigeine Reihe von kenianischen Läufern in die Marathon-Weltspitze. Zurzeitbesteht das Team aus vier Athleten: Lisa Hahner und Philipp Baar, der am7. April in Wien Marathon läuft, sowie Anna Hahner und Fabian Clarkson,die beim GENERALI BERLINER HALBMARATHON starten.jwGermany’s best road races produce international top results. To change this organizer SCC EVENTS founded an elite race team: the SCCEVENTS PRO TEAM. A small group of athletes receive maximum support and it isplanned to include talented youngsters as well in the future. Berlin’s renownedcoach Dieter Hogen heads the team. Back in the 90ies he guided Uta Pippig anda number of Kenyan runners to major international victories.
