Anne after finishing her first halfmarathon in Berlin together with her mother Ursula (left) and sister Julia28Anne ist natürlich erst einmal froh, nach ihrer langen Verletzungspauseüberhaupt wieder bei einem Rennenmitlaufen zu können. “I quickly becomeinsufferable,” she says. That’s why 2018was a difficult year for her. After runningher first 42.195 km at the Frankfurt Marathon,an obstinate case of osteitis pubistook her out of action for a full year.“I could only do a bit of cycling or swimming. And I went to the gym a lot and didsome upper body work.”Meanwhile, the 23-year-old, who hasjust completed her bachelor’s degree inevent management and event technologyat the Technical University of Mittelhessenin Giessen, is back in training, ingood spirits and has one goal in mind:She wants to beat her older sister atthe GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON.
She’s a good year older than Anne. The big sister as a role modeland incentive—that has always been the case: Julia startedwith track as a kid, so Anne wanted to, too. Julia concentratedon the 1500 m; Anne followed in her footsteps. When Julia finallystarted to run half marathons,Anne could not help herself: she had to, as well. And Anne didnot just want to emulate her, she wanted more: “It has alwaysbeen important to me to be faster than my sister,” says Anne, laughing. “She used to always take that in stride and just say,‘Okay, the little kid is just faster.’“ And even if it is just by a fewseconds: The personal bests for the half marathon for bothof them lie at around 1:39, with Anne slightly in the lead. Andhow serious will the duel be in Berlin this time? Of course, Anneis happy to be back competing in a race after such a long injurybreak. “We will definitely start out together and enjoy thegreat atmosphere.” She experienced it at her half-marathondebut in 2017. “I’m really looking forward to it. I know whenit’s hard, the Berliners are there ready to cheer me on.” Andafter the start? “The end of the race will show who has morebreath left.” Julia doesn’t think it is as important to compareherself with her little sister. But she won’t let her win without afight—Anne is convinced about that. You will undoubtedly see more of Anne Trommershäuserat the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON. As part of herstudies, she completed an internship with the event organizerSCC EVENTS in 2018 and later worked there for a fewmonths. “Berlin is big—and colourful. I had to get used to itfirst, but I’ve learned to love it.” She loves it so much so thatshe has decided to go back to SCC EVENTS after completingher Master’s degree, which she hopes to complete in Düsseldorfin two years.
